Information for Entrepreneurs

Who we are.

We are a group of accredited investors who invest in a diversified pool of opportunities.  Many of us are working professionals who seek personal involvement in people with novel ideas as they translate their ideas into real businesses.  We have access to a broad yet deep network of individuals with diverse knowledge and interests. 

What we do.

In general, we are ‘hands-off’ investors and certainly not interested in micro-managing your business.  That said, we work hard for our money and do not want to see it misused or lost. 

We are all only as good as our judgment and we use an established framework to help us improve our judgment.  The components of this framework include: The People, The Opportunity, The Context and The Deal. 

While we do recognize that investments of the startup nature are high-risk by definition, we act prudently to mitigate the risk by only investing in the cream of the startup crop and by maintaining close contact with the entrepreneurs as the company grows. 

How we work.

The process begins when you complete the Secure Online Questionnaire which will be reviewed by our screening team.

1.  If we think we can build a ‘Gain – Gain’ relationship with you and your enterprise, we will invite you to meet with us.  It is vital that the fit between entrepreneurs and investors is positive and synergistic.  The only way for all of us to check for fit is to meet in person.

2.  If we choose not to meet with you we will still try to help. 

We want to see success.

We will share with you the thoughts and insights gained during our critical appraisal of your business.  If appropriate we put you in contact with other people in our network who may be of assistance to you.

If, in our opinion(s), we do not think your venture will succeed, we will let you know, but in a nice way not like KOL.  If we think that your ideas are good but off-target, we will also let you know.   We are optimistic realists who want to see the world a better place and enjoy meeting people who are willing to put blood, sweat and tears behind their ideas.

3. We are most likely to reply to you with more questions.  Often we need additional information or clarification in order to make our first decision – should we meet.

We meet with a significant number of the entrepreneurs seeking capital but please understand that most angel investors actually invest in only a very small percentage of all startups seeking capital. We are no different.

Where we are.

Our core investors are located in Victoria, British Columbia but our network spreads around the globe.

When we meet.

We meet at least 4 times per year to review our investments.  We have a mandate to meet more frequently if necessary.  Rest assured we communicate frequently with each other as needed.

Why we do what we do.

We actively seek opportunities to invest our money (and time when needed) in ideas and people who have the panache to bring about a positive change in the world.

While we, of course, want solid returns on our investments we are also optimistic realists who want to see the world a better place.  We invest in successful people who are willing to put blood, sweat and tears behind their ideas.
